Hey! Hi! Howdy!

Hey! I’m Janelle!

I like to think I’m not a conventional photographer—a title I wear with absolute pride. I want people to laugh, ease up, drop a curse word and then flush with embarrassment. I want to catch the charm in wearing the wrong pants, or the fact that your shirts got a stain because maybe you got a little too excited about that donair you had just before the shoot.

I want to see you be you, and allow me to share that moment with you and those you love. I want you to see yourself in the photos.

Oh, you’re probably reading this excerpt to know about me. Let’s see…

I grew up in the Annapolis Valley—home of the pumpkin people and the mighty Apple Blossom Festival. If you’re from here you know it’s surrounded by quiet landscapes and the kind of everyday moments that make you stop and appreciate life—Oh! And lots and lots of lakes and beaches. From a young age, I was always drawn to creativity — whether it was drawing, observing the world around me, watching the moon chase the sun, counting the stars, or finding beauty in the small details others might overlook. That love for creativity eventually led me to photography, and thanks to my Dad I got my first camera at the age of 15, and boys-oh-boys did that little T2i take me on some fun journeys.

For me, photography has always been about more than just taking pictures. It’s never really been about having that one great Facebook photo to announce a relationship, or that 10/10 instagram post that screams “look mom I made it!”

Of course, those are all added benefits.

It’s about preserving the feeling of a moment—the laughter, the connection, the little in-between expressions that tell a real story. I love capturing people, pets and everything else as they truly are, in a way that feels natural, comfortable, and timeless.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me cracking jokes at the wrong time, drawing, spending time at home, or hanging out with my three dogs who keep life fun and full of personality. They inspire me a lot when it comes to living in the moment and enjoying life for what it is. Life is simple through the eyes of a canine after all—they don’t care what the price of living is, or if it’s going to rain. They only care about moving from sun spot to sun spot for a nap or making a mess in the snow because thats what huskies do.

Life is simple when you just live it. It is our greatest accomplishment and challenge! And photos should capture just that.
